building and enhancing the educational experiences for the area’s youth is one of the many job rewards for the team at Halfacre Construction Company. The commercial construction company has more than 50 years of experience working on active school campuses throughout southwest Florida and has learned many valuable lessons along the way. Those lessons, coupled with the robust experience our team has gained from working on several active campuses for improvements, renovations, and additions make Halfacre Construction Company an excellent partner in this arena.

In fact, Halfacre Construction Company has worked on more than 400 school campuses and completed upwards of 900 projects across southwest Florida’s active educational campuses.

In Hillsborough County, Halfacre Construction Company has completed more than 200 projects on school campuses over the past 10 years. Most recently, the team began construction on a new 21,000-square-foot building atWimauma Elementary School.

The newest addition will house classrooms and other educational spaces for elementary children and will also provide covered walkways. Built in 1926, Wimauma Elementary School once served grades kindergarten through twelfth grade, but now houses grades pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Situated in the small, rural town of Wimauma, the Title 1 school serves a diverse student body of close to 600 students.

In Sarasota County, Halfacre Construction Company was recently awarded the project to replace and add an approximately 14,000-square-foot building at Englewood Elementary School.

The current building No. 6 will be demolished after the replacement is completed. The newest structure will house classrooms and other educational spaces for elementary children. Located at 150 N. McCall Road in Englewood, the current campus consists of 12 buildings and four portables.

Further north in Manatee County, the commercial construction company was selected to create the newest Team Success Charter School located near Sarasota Bradenton International Airport.

In partnership with the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority, Team Success Charter School’s airport campus will follow a standard school curriculum with a special focus on the aeronautical industry and potential career opportunities available in the field. This will mark the public charter school’s second Manatee County location and will serve approximately 750 middle and high school students.

Situated at 8237 15th St. E. on the east side of 15th Street, the new school is planned for a vacant 15-acre parcel owned by Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority.

As part of the scope, Halfacre Construction Company will build the 46,000-square-foot facility, including an administration building, a new cafeteria, three classroom buildings totaling 36 classrooms and two faculty restrooms. Halfacre Construction Company will also complete site work, such as concrete sidewalks, canopies, soccer fields and outdoor learning and play areas. With the exception of the cafeteria building, all other structures will be constructed out of repurposed shipping containers from the modular builder Innovar Structures based in Wauchula, Fla.

One Manatee County project very close to hearts at Halfacre Construction Company, especially Vice President Greg Witt and grandson of Gene Witt, was the remodel at Gene Witt Elementary School’s current campus and renovation of its existing buildings.

Gene Witt Elementary School was named after Gene Witt, a teacher, coach, principal, and former Manatee County School District superintendent who served the Manatee County school system for more than 35 years. The school opened in his name and honor in 1994.

Prior to the start of construction, a memorial was erected at the elementary school in Gene’s honor. Centered around a bronze Eagle statue, the elementary school’s mascot, the tribute highlights Gene’s major life events.

The commercial construction company was selected to add structures to the school’s current campus and renovate its existing buildings. Now nearing completion, the new building will be used for additional classroom space and matches the school’s present architecture. The project also included site work to clear a 7-acre parcel and incorporated additional asphalt driving lanes for the parent drop-off and pickup queue and new play fields.

As a result of Halfacre Construction Company’s extensive experience working with school districts, municipalities, and government agencies around the state, their team is highly knowledgeable regarding the processes and requirements necessary for these projects. The team is fully invested and their passion shows through in each project. Every site has its own nuances but Halfacre Construction Company always aims to accommodate an active campus and provide the least disruption to the teaching and learning environment for its staff and students. For the Halfacre Construction Company team, leaving this lasting legacy is truly a privilege.

For more than 50 years, Halfacre has provided high-quality construction projects throughout the region and has gained extensive knowledge and expertise with new construction on active campuses of some of Florida’s top school districts.
